Art Olympics

By Hunter Weakley

The Lee’s Summit High School Art department held the first annual Art Olympics December 15, 2016. The Art Olympics is an event taking place once a year where art teachers chose star art students  to compete in different categories. The competitive categories are figure drawing, still life drawing, painting, digital art, and sculpting. The art competitors compete for two hours and are given either a gold, silver or bronze medal.

The current art olympics only started this year at our highschool, yet over 20 students showed up and participated in this event. The students only had 1 or two hours to do it. Still life/painting were tasked to create an art piece from a previously set up mixture of lamps, books, and other objects. In the same room as still life drawings were also painters who had the equally tasking job of creating a cropped image of the dress with paints.  Digital art on the other hand had only 30 minutes to create a design, because they had to print theirs out. Yet they produced creative artworks.
