The MLS season kicks off this Friday March 3rd. Sporting Kansas City looks like they could have a great season. Many players are returning for the 2017 season, including veteran Sporting players Benny Feilhaber, Dominic Dwyer, Graham Zusi, Matt Besler, and keeper Tim Melia. Midfielder Benny Feilhaber, lead the team in assists last year with 13 assists over 30 games. Benny signed a two year contract through 2018 in November, securing him a spot on the team for at least two more seasons. Dominic Dwyer who lead the team in goals with a total of 16 goals in 33 games, will be a big factor in Sporting’s offense. Switching over to the defense side of SKC’s lineup, we have veteran keeper Tim Melia. Tim Melia played and started in a total of 27 games last year with a total of eight shutouts. Another backliner that always is a major factor in our defense is Sporting captain Matt Besler. Matt Besler only played in 18 games and started in 17 out of those, but he has been a crucial part of Sporting’s core players since 2009. Even with many of Sporting players returning for this season, Sporting still lost a few players. A favorite among fans and long time Sporting player, defender Chance Myers was one of those players lost to the Portland Timbers Chance played nine years for the Wizards and Sporting Kansas City; his presence will be missed greatly. Sporting travels to DC to play the United on March 4th for the season opener. Over all, Sporting appears to look strong coming off the off season and fans are looking forward to having a strong year.
